Description

O-Desmethyltramadol or O-DSMT is an opioid drug of the phenylpropylamine class, an active metabolite of tramadol. This is a designer drug, nothing is known about its toxicity, but it is known that it affects the body as a sedative, has analgesic properties, creates euphoria and muscle relaxation and suppresses anxiety. O-DSMT, unlike tramadol, has no stimulating effect and is closer to opioids in properties.
O-DSMT or (+/-)O-Desmethyltramadol, or 3-(2-((dimethylamino)methyl)-1-hydroxycyclohexyl)phenol has properties similar to codeine, but is not actually a morphine opiate. Structurally, O-DSMT contains two rings, including a cyclohexane ring, which is connected to the phenyl ring in R1, where the phenyl ring is replaced in R3 by a hydroxyl group (OH-). Has a third substitution on the cyclohexane ring in R2, the ring is connected to a dimethylamine group connected via a methylene bridge. O-Desmethyltramadol is similar to tramadol, with the difference in the absence of a methyl group (R3-methoxy substitution of tramadol).
O-DSmT is an atypical opioid, as it contains combinations of its stereoisomers in the racemate.
O-DSMT has a higher opiate potency in contrast to tramadol and is more effective and is a highly affine ligand of δ- and κ-opioid receptors and serotonin reuptake inhibitors are inactive, but remains active as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. This means that the analgesic properties of o-dsmt are much higher than tamadol and perfectly interacts with other opiate preparations.
O-DSMT has properties to affect the m-opioid receptor and activates it, which causes eforia. High dosages of the drug can lead to respiratory depression, memory loss, body control, up to a fatal outcome. With regular use, it can cause opioid dependence.
